The Pharmacy Techniques Department at the Technical Institute/Kufa organized several special activities in conjunction with World Diabetes Day on November 14.
The activities included measuring blood sugar levels for institute staff, students, and the families of prospective students, accompanied by awareness campaigns throughout the department.
Additionally, a scientific awareness lecture on diabetes was delivered by:
Assist. Prof. Dr. Nawal Abdul Hashim
Asst. Lect. Ala Sadiq Hassan
The aim was to raise health awareness and educate students about the scientific facts related to diabetes, encouraging a healthy lifestyle for prevention and treatment, as well as correcting common misconceptions that may affect patients’ and the community’s understanding of the disease.
It was emphasized that sugar consumption is not a direct cause of the disease and that diabetes can occur in individuals of normal weight as well. The lecture also highlighted the dangers of prediabetes and the potential to reverse it by following a healthy lifestyle, along with explaining the concept of insulin resistance.
The session concluded by stressing the importance of a balanced diet and the possibility of consuming carbohydrates in moderation for diabetic patients, thus enhancing community health and supporting early prevention.
