📝 About the Department
The department was established in 1980 – 1981 under the name (Mechanical Department / Metal Fabrication). It accepts graduates from the scientific branch of high school as well as the vocational education branch in (Mechanics, Carpentry, and Minerals). After developing the scientific curricula in 1991 – 1992, the branch name was changed to “Production,” and later the department name became “Mechanical Techniques Department / Production Branch” in 2005 – 2006. Notably, the top 10% of graduates are eligible for admission into Colleges of Mechanical Engineering.

The Mechanical Department is one of the main technological departments. It moves towards expanding the base of technical education and its modern applications to be a leader in providing certified technical services, fostering a spirit of competition and cooperation with society.
The department adopts a mission based on the technical education framework in Iraq to highlight excellence. It focuses on graduating national technical cadres capable of understanding technical systems and supporting global technical development. This includes: using computer and internet technologies in education, activating relationships with the private sector, and modernizing laboratories and workshops.
- Preparing technical staff to serve as a link between specialists and skilled workers.
- Providing graduates with theoretical and practical information to perform assigned tasks effectively.
- Interacting with the labor market and community needs in rehabilitation and training.
- Operating various metal cutting machines (Lathe, Milling, etc.).
- Distributing production operations and preparing technological pathways for optimal performance.
- Working in technological departments within factories and preparing operation cards for workshops.
- Implementing quality control and quality assurance tasks.
- Participating in and executing emergency and periodic maintenance for machinery and tools.
