With confident steps that shape a promising academic future, and in line with the requirements of today’s modern technological development, the specialized ministerial committee for the establishment of scientific departments—affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research—visited the Kufa Technical Institute, one of the formations of the Middle Euphrates Technical University.

The committee was received by the Dean of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Athir Kazim Abbadi, along with the Institute’s two Deputy Deans.

This visit constitutes a fundamental cornerstone in the Institute’s ambitious plan toward a comprehensive transition to the global “Polytechnic” (Polytechnic) system. The committee closely reviewed the mechanisms for converting a number of the Institute’s existing scientific departments to adopt this well-established, applied academic model. This transition represents a qualitative shift aimed at moving beyond traditional educational frameworks, relying on dynamic curricula that focus on practical skills and technological innovation—thereby helping to redefine the institution’s educational identity as an advanced educational hub that meets the highest international standards.

The committee also examined logistic preparations and infrastructure readiness in preparation for introducing specialized programs that keep pace with the era—foremost among them the Artificial Intelligence Technologies Department, which is expected to be established starting in the academic year 2026/2027.

The visit included an intensive on-site inspection tour, during which the committee closely assessed the availability of comprehensive requirements and the conditions necessary to ensure the success of these initiatives. These included:

The competence and readiness of teaching and administrative staff;

Infrastructure, including the quality of classrooms and a well-prepared educational environment, as well as the readiness of modern scientific laboratories and supporting technical tools.

At the conclusion of the tour, members of the ministerial committee expressed their sincere appreciation and high commendation for the exceptional efforts made by the Institute’s Dean’s Office. They affirmed that these steps translate, in practical terms, the Middle Euphrates Technical University’s ambitious future vision for updating its curricula and aligning with the real needs of the job market.

For his part, the Dean emphasized the strategic importance of the proposed departments, and their anticipated effective role in supporting both the public and private sectors with specialized expertise and high-quality graduates—serving the interests of community service and advancing the educational journey in Iraq.
