The Council of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University held its seventh session for the 2025–2026 academic year in the University Council Hall at the Kufa campus, chaired by the university president, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Kazem Al-Zubaidi, with the attendance of all council members and the hosting of a number of directors of relevant departments.
The session began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Assistant Professor Mueen Al-Rubaie, followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in honor of the souls of all martyrs.
During the session, the university president reviewed the directives of the minister presented in the latest opinion meeting and instructed the deans to act accordingly, emphasizing the necessity of:
1- Attention to modern technological applications and digital transformation, especially the website.
2-Enhancing the institutional performance system and quality assurance system across all university institutions.
3- Opening up to private sector companies and meeting their needs through the quality of university outputs, while aligning work with applicable administrative regulations.
4-Giving attention to sustainable development in general, with emphasis on indicators of green economy development.
On the other hand, the university president emphasized the necessity of:
1- Striving to achieve integration with sectoral institutions to fulfill their goals and requirements through the establishment of specialized studies and institutes in vital sectors and fields, in line with community needs and sustainable development.
2-Monitoring the progress of examinations and teaching, ensuring their regularity for the second semester, and providing the requirements for the success of the examination process.
3-Activating partnerships with the labor market, including the private sector, and benefiting from these partnerships in updating curricula and introducing academic programs that meet market demands.
4-Following up on activities and events related to achieving sustainable development goals and documenting them in a way that enhances the university’s standing in local and international rankings.
5-Working to stimulate scientific research within the university and ensuring the implementation of the scientific plan, along with continuous monitoring of this important file.
During the council session, the topics listed on the agenda were reviewed and discussed. Among the most important was the discussion of the institutional accreditation file, as it is considered one of the fundamental pillars for enhancing the quality of education and achieving academic excellence at both the local and international levels.
The session also included a detailed presentation delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Hussein Awad Al-Abadi, Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department, in which he reviewed the taken to meet the requirements of institutional accreditation in accordance with the standards of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to the achieved progress rates across various quality domains.
In turn, the University Council stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to complete the requirements of the institutional accreditation file within the specified timelines, with the need to unify work among colleges, institutes, and the Quality Assurance Department to ensure the achievement of the highest levels of institutional performance.
This direction comes as part of the university’s strategic plan aimed at obtaining institutional accreditation, which will contribute to improving its academic ranking and enhancing community confidence in its educational outputs.
On another note, the council discussed a number of academic, administrative, and student-related matters, and the necessary recommendations were made accordingly.
