In conjunction with World Antibiotic Awareness Week, which lasts from November 18 to 24 of each year, the Pharmaceutical Technology Department at the Technical Institute / Kufa organized a scientific festival with the aim of spreading awareness about the indiscriminate use of antibiotics without a prescription, entitled (Use optimal for antibiotics),
The festival, which witnessed the presence of the President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, the Assistant President of the University for Administrative and Financial Affairs, along with a number of department heads in the university presidency, as well as a number of academic figures specialized in pharmaceutical sciences.
They were received by the Dean, Professor Dr. Atheer Kazem Abadi, the Assistant Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs, and the Head of the Pharmacy Technology Department, in the presence of a number of heads of scientific departments and a group of the Institute’s employees and students.
It was organized in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division at the University Presidency and included distinctive segments that combined the scientific and social aspects and health awareness. The festival began with a segment displaying a number of posters that included the dangers of indiscriminate use of antibiotics, while clarifying the concept of bacterial or viral infection and its effects as it alternated. The students helped explain these concepts to the ladies and gentlemen in attendance.
For his part, the President of the University touched on antibiotics in his speech as one of the most prominent discoveries in human history, but they are a double-edged sword, so one must warn against using them without a real need so that they are not incapable of performing the tasks for which they were created. His Excellency also praised the Institute’s pioneering role. In health awareness in addition to education,Pointing out that education is not limited to classrooms only, but rather extends beyond that by reaching the community, and the Department of Pharmacy Technology embodied this through this festival, which came as an application of one of the goals of sustainable development, which is the goal of sustainable health, while His Excellency praised the important role of women in educational institutions and community awareness, concluding his speech by praising the Deanship of the Institute and the Head of the Department of Pharmacy Technology with the organizing committees of the festival for their great efforts that resulted in this distinguished organization.
The festival also included a valuable scientific lecture by Professor Dr. Muhammad Dakhil Al-Rikabi, Head of the Clinical Pharmacy Department at the College of Pharmacy / Al-Kafeel University, entitled:
(Post Antibiotics Era: An Emerging Concern to Humanity)
Followed by a student activity that included a theatrical performance that embodies the misuse of antibiotics,
Then a second scientific lecture was given by Ms. Ala Sadiq Hassan, a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy Technology, entitled:
(Awareness Lecture on the Proper Use of Antibiotics)
The two lectures were co-authored by Professor Ali Abdul Amir Jithum, a lecturer in the same department, and the festival concluded with a review of its final recommendations by the lecturer, Ms. Nawal Abdul Hashim, with the Dean honoring the ladies and gentlemen lecturers and students
